Good tex-mex! Shredded beef is the way to go if you are in the mood for nachos. Marinaded and flavorful. Unfortunately the drink prices are too much, especially for margaritas that come out of a machine and have little alcohol in them. :(

I remember when Chelinos was good. Apparently that's no longer the case. Will not be returning to this rip-off again. If there was a rating lower than 1 star available, I'd give it.

Our waitress was super nice as well as the other staff. The chips and salsa here was sooo good. I could have ate that alone. I got the ground beef taco salad and it was really good.

Chileno's is definitely fast, family-friendly with real Mexican food. This is a place that my family goes when we are super hungry, don't want to cook, and need something that everyone will like--it is also super close to our house. My daughter and I are vegetarian, gluten-free, and we have so many options when it comes to Chileno's (and Mexican, in general). We love the steamed beans, rice, corn tortillas and chips, the cheese and salsa are always good. This last visit, I got a vegetarian appetizer sampler--it had potatoes, jalepenos, onions, avocados...it was very good. I added a side of beans & rice, and my daughter and I shared it as "fajita style". I usually get the taco salad with steamed beans + rice, and the order is always correct and yummy. The service is always fast, they move people in-and-out pretty quickly. I am not reviewing a luxury restaurant here people, there are always fancier Mexican places. But I am a fan of this spot because it definitely meets our dinner needs every time we go!

Only reason I am giving this place two stars is because the service was perfect. Unfortunately, the food was substandard. I ordered the chicken quesadilla, with rice instead of beans. The quesadilla itself was greasy and hard. The chicken was dry, stringy, and without flavor. Tried to end the meal on a positive note by ordering fried ice cream, which I adore. What I got instead, was a chewy soggy coating on top of ice cream served in a fried little tortilla cup smothered in chocolate sauce and whipped cream. This is not fried ice cream, this is a monstrosity.

We are diehard Chelino's fans. Ted's is great food but Chelino's edges Ted's in authenticity AND service. The wait staff is always energetic, sincerely dedicated to their customers and very engaging. Food is simply great offering authentic dishes to TexMex and the best fajitas in town. Go beyond the standard dishes and try anything on the menu- you will be impressed!

Good food weird building. I think it used to be a Roy Rogers back in the day...maybe an Arby's.

Excellent food, if you like real Mexican. Great wait staff. If there is a problem they take care of it promptly. They are concerned about customer satisfaction.

Incredible service. Super busy but fast seating. If you like hot, ask for the green salsa! Chimichanga is delicious, as us everything else we have ever had in here. All Chelinos' seem to have consistently great food and service.

definitely a reason i used to ditch classes in high school to eat here. this place rocks. the staff is friendly (for the most part) and literally anything you eat will be tasty. whether or not it's totally 100% authentic is up in the air, but whatever you eat will definitely be tasty. if you are stoned and you eat the fried ice cream, prepare for an experience.

For all those reviewers saying "it;s not very authentic", why did you go here in the first place? They do not put themselves out as such, so go to a Capitol Hill area Mexican restaurant in that's your pleasure. That being said, for quality good Tex-Mex this is my go to place. Service at the May ave location is prompt and friendly, the portions are large, and they let me substitute to my heart's content. I used to eat there monthly, but with the return of the 2 for $20 special I go at least twice a month now.

I have been eating at Chelinos for two decades now. Chelinos is great for beer and queso but the food is nothing special. The reason I gave this location two stars is mainly because of the service. The servers here are so incredibley rude. I think they actually hated me. The best mexican food I've found in Oklahoma has to be Ted's. And so far the servers have been very nice.

I went to the one on 89th and Western, It was creepy... I've ate in some questionable mexican places when I was in Tijuana but this place is just off... And the food was cold, and gross.. It could have been horrible taco bueno left overs with cold canned refried beans on the side..

About the only thing good was the chips and salsa. Ordered a lunch special that was supposed to be fajita meat. It was a strange pinkish color and definitely did not taste like fajitas.

Chelinos is a great Mexican restaurant in OKC with several locations. I remember going to the original location when I was a toddler, 20 years ago. It is a family owned restaurant that is a beautiful example of the American dream. Their food is consistently good. They have typical tex mex food to make us Oklahomans happy, but they also have authentic mexican food. They actually just changed their menu and added several more authentic items. My husband just told me how much he loves the new menu. He is always ordering something adventurous, like seafood or cactus, when we visit Chelinos. I typically stay with enchiladas. Most restaurants, I order chicken or cheese enchiladas with sour cream sauce, but I like to order ground beef enchiladas with salsa verde at Chelinos. They serve complimentary chips, salsa, and cheese sauce, as well as tortillas and sopapillas.

Delicious food with friendly staff. Parking can be a pain when they are really busy. We eat here often and have never had a bad experience. The price is good too. We once found ourselves in the middle of a wedding ceremony here.

This particular location - Dirty and loud. Menus and tables were sticky. Food wasn't that great for the price. Overall disappointed. The waitstaff was really nice & quick though. I do recommend the bricktown location. I had a much better experience there.

The margaritas were good. I liked the complementary queso that came with the chips, but the food itself was pretty meh. It wasn't crowded the night we went and despite having a lot of servers, service was slow and inefficient. The menu wasn't up to date. My son wanted milk and they first said they had it then said they didn't. Then we ordered something off the kids menu which they didn't have in stock. We were surprised. We loved Bricktown and were also sad they wouldn't seat our table of six in the back over the canal so I'm ont sure how good they are for groups. Hopefully Chileno's will up their game with more interesting menu items and better service.

This is the worst tasting Mexican food I have ever paid for. Seriously, enchiladas from the freezer section taste better. If you are thinking of coming here because the wait at Ted's is long, think again! Either stay at Ted's or go to Taco Bueno. If you come here, you're going to pay $10 to eat an enchilada that you hate!

Okay so its not the BEST i have ever had, but its good enough and I dig it. I get to practice my espanol and the food is alright. Its always packed but service is quick and attentive. The hubby and I ordered, ate and left in about 30 minutes last time. crazy huh? He likes the chicken flautas and i enjoy the chicken enchiladas cremas. Wednesday night is enchilada plate for like 4-5 bucks...cha-ching! oh oh oh!and you get free sopapillas after your done...so good and full and fat...:P

Note: NORTH MAY AVE LOCATION This is the best Chelino's location that I've been to (out of about five or six locations). It is consistently tasty, just as I remember Chelino's always was in the past. It is not as nasty of an environment as some other locations, and they have great service. From my general Chelino's review: Good with huge portions, but greasy & not great. Once upon a time, I swore by this place. Since that time, I have experienced much better Mexican food. Likes: The food comes out damn near instantly! They send in your order, & I swear it's usually like 5 minutes before it arrives! The portions are gigantic. With the complimentary chips, queso, salsa, tortillas, & (after the meal) sopapilla, if you finish you're entrée, you're quite the eater. They douse many entrees in loads of jack cheese, & the shredded beef is loaded into their burritos. The food is very tasty for the most part, though certain items may be lacking, & it's all very, VERY greasy. The food is also fairly cheap, though their prices have gone up over the years & now match most of their competition (though still cheaper than Ted's). I also typically like the atmosphere. I have always had great service at Chelino's, and that says a lot considering that I've eaten there scores of times over the years. I also enjoy the generally happy & fast-[aced environment in which they work, along with the Spanish music playing overhead. Occasionally, they employ a single mariachi guitar player to entertain the diners, which is always a plus. Of note, the Mexican beers and margaritas are particularly popular, though I have never personally partaken in either. Dislikes: As Chelino's is a chain, some locations are better than others, & they sometimes have particularities to their food. For instance, the one on north May in OKC has better shredded beaf than most. The one on Alameda in east Norman has poorly flavored beef for some reason. The one in downtown OKC (Bricktown) has fairly nasty chips and always serves ground beef by default in its burritos instead of shredded. Typically, their nachos are so loaded with super-greasy cheese that the chips near the bottom get soggy before you get to them. Their chips are usually not very good either, though it can vary. The tortillas are pretty basic & quite inferior to Mamaveca's or Ted's. Some locations have such high turnaround & such cheap tables (amongst other cheap fixtures) that your drink will literally move on it own on the table because of the grease & soapy water mix on it! Definitely go to Chelino's at least for the experience. The food is good but not great, but there is a lot to like about the place. Besides, really there are only maybe 2-3 better Mexican joints in the OKC metro, and you can find one of these virtually anywhere, unlike those other places.

In my opinion, Chelinos are kind of hit and miss. This one on May is by far my favorite. However, I only order one thing every time I go so I can't really give a fair review. If you like spicy, get the Guiso Especial. It's beef tips stewed in tomatoes, onions and jalapenos topped with two fried eggs. The portions are big and I usually don't even bother with the rice and beans. You might end up like me and not order anything else from Chelinos ever again!

Sorry to be the bitch that calls these fools out, but if i wanted canned refried beans and instant minute pseudo mexican rice, i would have gone to taco bell or order some of that stuff that they ordered from cisco food services myself. Never will I waste another $8.90 on this restaurant.

Wow, beers were cheap, HUGE, and icy cold. My buzz came quickly and good times were had. We arrived with a group of 8 and were seated within minutes. I love Mexican restaurants where its not a question if you'd like more chips and salsa/queso, it just arrives when needed. Food was descent, not the best flautas I've had, but it hit the spot as the beer munchies quickly approached.

Sitting out on the patio here with a huge ice cold goblet of dos equis snacking on some chips and queso is about the best thing to do on a summer day. after a nice swim, you can head up here with your towel still on and get a massive lunch for extremely cheap. I love mexican food so i eat just about everything on the menu but if you go def. check out the special salsa...

this is my go-to mexican restaurant in oklahoma city. i always order the guiso especial which is beef tips marinated in a spicy tomato sauce topped with over easy eggs...served with rice, beans, and slices of fresh avocados. make sure to ask for the complimentary pickled vegetables.

The reviews of this place aren't terribly fair. It's not "creepy" unless you think a clean restaurant with a red tile floor and sparse decor is "creepy". The food is nothing to write home about, I'll admit, but it is not Taco Bueno levels of suck either. It's true that the beans and rice are pretty standard, but does anyone honestly go out for Mexican food looking for beans and rice? And yes, they were serving crazy huge beers, so if you want beer, hey... go ahead. I'm going to go again and order something pricier, just to test, but I don't have high expectations. I paid $10 for two chicken Flautas, which were overdone, and had an inch of shell on either end with no chicken inside. Also, the menu said they were going to come with avacado slices and a few other things. I did not get these things. At all, just a tiny scoop of guac and sour cream. My boyfriend had quesadillas and could have gotten more substantial quesadillas from taco bell, truly. And though I'm usually not a taco bell fan, the taco bell that's on May, about a mile ((maybe further)) south from this particular Chelino's is really good. They have a high volume of customers and as a result, everything is always very fresh there, oddly enough. I actually go there about once every week and a half. So... if you just want a mediocre taco/ chalupa/ burrito, go to that taco bell and ask them for the steak or chicken instead of the ground beef. It'll be faster and cheaper and just as not-worth-writing-home-about. ;)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
